Gita Paints – Dr. Seuss Nursery

In 2009, my very good friends Erinn & David were expecting their first baby. They wanted a Dr, Seuss nursery theme and it was the first mural painting I had ever done. I also got to paint a dresser as part of the theme. When Erinn came to me requesting that I be the artist for the nursery, I was nervous at first. But she had full faith in my art skills and so I decided to take on this project as my first step into painting murals.

Before I began painting on the walls,  wanted to rough out some ideas and practice the Dr. Seuss style of drawing, I used heavy art paper and Prismacolor brand artist makers  to show Erinn the drafts and to make sure that she liked the style. David painted the room a happy shade of sky blue, and a dresser the perfect shade of yellow to with the “One Fish Two Fish… ” book theme.

The rest was just, taking my time, measuring, and going with what I know. I learned that paint is surprisingly forgiving. Especially acrylic which is water-based.

Here are the photos from that project
