High School Comic – Pen and Ink by Gita

In high school, my interest in comic books definitely came through in my art. I loved the big 11X17 sketch paper and had no problem drawing with just about any kind of ink pen, all through fountain pens were my favorite. Here are some of my favorite pieces from high school.

Crying – Digital Painting by Gita

My soul sister passed away suddenly on May 21, 2014. It was a Wednesday, and her mother called me with the terrible news. I was so shocked that I couldn’t cry. But once I started, I couldn’t stop. I decided to express myself and I did it with this digital painting.

My Favorite Photo Realistic Sketches by Gita

I have created many pencil pieces growing up as an artist.  It wasn’t until I was 17 that I started to develop an interest for photo realism. I purchased a Walter Foster Pencil Sketch kit for beginners. I worked at a toy store and always noticed this kit in the arts and crafts section. I […]

Graphite Pencil Sketches – by Gita

This is still one of my most favorite mediums to create it. Once I developed strong mechanics and skills for drawing, I wanted to get better at photo realism. This meant learning the art of shading.

Gita’s Fashion Sketches – by Gita Year 1995

When I was 15, I purchased my first Vogue Spring collection magazine and started to fall in love with fashion. The superthick Spring Edition smelled of perfumes from Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Gucci. The photography was beautiful and the models were just stunning. I started drawing using the magazine ads as inspiration. After a […]

Medium Graphite Pencils – Derwent Graphic 12

I couldn’t tell you how many boxed of graphite pencils I have gone through since college. Even though I love digital art, it usually begins with a sketch of some sort. Some days, I just want to doodle on paper. Often times, those doodles make it into the scanner and end up finalized in Illustrator. […]

Wacom INTUOS Tablet – Gita’s first digital graphics tablet

I was 25 years old when I became the proud owner of the Wacom Intuos4 Extra Large Pen Tablet. This was the first Wacom product I had ever purchased. It was 2005,  the first iPhones were just starting to appear and Facebook had just been invented the year earlier.  I had been using a mouse to create […]

Rainbow Glossy Fish – Acrylic Painting on Canvas – by Gita

While creating Chicken Pig Cow Fish (CPCF) I had to redo FISH. The reason was that I wanted all four pieces to have a similar style. This fish has some very fluid and blended areas that I really enjoy looking at. This effect was achieved by allowing layers to dry before adding another layer. […]

Acrylic Paints I Like

I had been watching “The Joy of Painting” by Bob Ross since I was 6 years old. It wasn’t until 2010 that I actually took my first painting class. I had been digitally air brushing for a few years before attempting acrylics. I took the class at a local Micheal’s Arts & Crafts store and […]

Gita’s love of Japanese Styles Cartoon Style

I remember drawing and painting Super Mario over and over again when I was in elementary school. The Japanese animations style is distinct and recognizable, just as one would immediately recognize the DC Comic or Marvel Comic style. I immediately took to the style of these curiously adorable characters. I can’t always follow the strange […]

Art Tools: Prismacolor Markers

When I started using color in my art, I explored a wide variety of mediums. One of my favorites is using Prismacolor Markers. The colors just pop in all the pieces I have done using Prismacolors. I also have purchased a blender which gives a gorgeous almost layered watercolor effect. I recently landed on a […]

Digital Airbrushing – Practicing how to airbrush with a step by step guide

Digital Character Design and Painting (Charles River Media Graphics) by Don Seegmiller   This book has had a tremendous influence on my love of digital airbrushing. My hand drawing skills were good, and I had created several elaborate pen & ink drawings as a teenager. I needed more guidance with actually coloring in those pieces. […]

Gita Paints – Dr. Seuss Nursery

In 2009, my very good friends Erinn & David were expecting their first baby. They wanted a Dr, Seuss nursery theme and it was the first mural painting I had ever done. I also got to paint a dresser as part of the theme. When Erinn came to me requesting that I be the artist […]

Adventures of the Traveler | The Secret Behind the Waterfall – Passage to ….

I sat here trying to think about what to write without sounding like a complete mental case. I have been keeping this to myself afraid of what others might think of me. Certainly some would say, “She has a wild imagination.” But I believe that is the best explanation that people can give, who have never experience what I have experienced; […]
